01ABOUT

Aralar Quartet is a string quartet founded in Pamplona, Navarre, with the aim of bringing audiences closer to their own, sometimes forgotten, musical heritage and placing it alongside the finest classical music, through programmes featuring local composers and influential composers from around the world.

They have taken part in the Quincena Musical in Deba, MusEkintza in Biscay and the Gregorio Solabarrieta Chamber Music Festival, and have given numerous recitals in other places such as Pamplona, Sangüesa and Bermeo.

Being in constant touch with the music of today also allows them to perform contemporary programmes at all kinds of events, from weddings to conferences. They have shared the stage with artists such as Nil Moliner and Nøgen, and for several years have been regular performers in the Candlelight concert series in Logroño.

López García

A violin graduate of Musikene, he studies for a master’s degree in Musical Research at UNIR and a master’s in Performance at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, alongside training at the Barenboim-Said Academy.

His teachers include K. Wataya, L. Gourdjia, T. Latvala, S. Horvath and A. Mercero. He has attended masterclasses with James Ehnes, Levon Ambartsumian, Kevork Mardirossian, the Casals Quartet and the Alban Berg Quartet.

He won first prize at the Medici International Music Competition and second prize at the International Moscow Music Competition with Kasumi Trio. He was a semi-finalist at the String Quartet Trondheim International Competition with Arima Quartet, with whom he has toured throughout Europe.

He has appeared at festivals including the Quincena Musical in San Sebastián, the Turina Festival in Seville, ProQuartet in Paris and the Trondheim festival in Norway.

He has been an active member of JONDE and has performed with the Bilbao Orkestra Sinfonikoa (BOS), the Navarre Symphony Orchestra (OSN) and the Euskadiko Orkestra (EO), with whom he collaborates regularly.

Amaya Arboniés began her musical studies in Zizur Mayor. She went on to complete her professional and higher studies in Pamplona with Belén Sáenz Gamasa and Garazi Echeandia Arrondo, respectively. She then undertook postgraduate studies with Catalín Bucataru at Musikene.

During her higher studies, she won the Antonio Alvira violin competition, receiving the loan of a violin made by José Contreras, with which she later won the End-of-Studies Prize. She has also won awards in chamber music competitions, including the Fernando Remacha Competition.

She has collaborated with ensembles including EGO, the Orquesta Sinfónica Ciudad de Zaragoza and the Orquesta Ciudad de Pamplona. She has also performed as a soloist with youth orchestras including the University of Navarre Symphony Orchestra and the Symphony Orchestra of the Higher Conservatory of Navarre.

She currently collaborates with various musical ensembles based in Pamplona.

Born in Pamplona, she began her musical studies at the Joaquín Maya Music School, completed her intermediate studies at the Pablo Sarasate Professional Conservatoire and earned her higher degree in viola at Musikene. She went on to complete a Master’s in Viola Performance at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt in Weimar and an Orchestral Master’s at Luleå Tekniska University in collaboration with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra.

She has performed with several youth orchestras, including EGO (Euskal Herriko Gazte Orkesta), OJSG (Orquesta Joven Sinfónica de Galicia) and GMJO (Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester).

During her years abroad, she was an academy member of the Staatskapelle Weimar in the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons and of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra in 2021/22, continuing to work with the latter throughout the following season.

She has collaborated with several international orchestras, including the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Royal Opera Swedish Orchestra, Norrlands Operan and Philharmonisches Orchester Erfurt.

Since returning to Spain in 2024, she has been a regular collaborator with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra, Bilbao Orkestra Sinfonikoa, Euskadiko Orkestra and Orquesta Nacional de España. From October, she will be under contract with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra.

She began her musical studies in Sangüesa with Amaia Pardo and continued her training with Diego Arbizu at the Pablo Sarasate Professional Conservatoire of Music in Pamplona, where she received the graduation prize and won the regional round of the Intercentros Melómano performance competition.

She subsequently pursued her higher studies with Professor Israel Fausto Martínez at the Manuel Castillo Higher Conservatoire of Music in Seville, winning second prize in the José Gámez Chamber Music Competition. She continued her training in Germany with Professor Daniel Geiss at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.

Throughout her career, she has taken masterclasses with renowned performers including Robert Cohen, Asier Polo, María de Macedo, Nicolás Chumachenco, Fernando Arias and Dmitry Ferschtman. She has also been a member of various orchestras and ensembles, including the Euskadiko Ikasleen Orkestra (EIO), the Joven Orquesta Barroca de Andalucía (JOBA) and the Mainz School of Music Orchestra. She was awarded the Francisco Javier Oyarzun Scholarship for Excellence in Artistic Studies for three consecutive years.

Her career combines performance and teaching. She has taught cello at the Pablo Sarasate Professional Conservatoire of Music in Pamplona and at various music schools, gaining extensive experience in music education. Alongside this, she has collaborated with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra (OSN) and taken part in a range of musical projects and ensembles.

She currently combines her teaching work with an active performing career, taking part in numerous musical projects and giving concerts across the country.
